PJM Runs Max Gen Alert Through Mid-July Heat as Peak Nears 145 GW
PJM issued a Maximum Generation Alert and a Load Management Alert for July 16 across its 13-state footprint and the District of Columbia. The pair followed the same alerts in effect July 15, when the system ran without incident.
PJM forecast a peak load of roughly 145,000 MW for July 16 as heat held across the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest.
The Max Gen Alert tells generation and transmission owners to defer or cancel non-critical maintenance so units stay online, and it notifies neighboring systems that exports out of PJM may be curtailed. No customer action was required, and PJM did not expect to call on demand response.

A Max Gen Alert is a capacity-margin signal, not a panic button — but it changes how the desk runs the day. Deferred maintenance keeps megawatts online while thinning the bench if a large unit trips.
