What is included, syllabus & completion

The dangerous question is not simply “What is the limit?” It is “Which limit applies to this topology, on what clock, and with what next contingency?”

This course develops the evidence-first habits behind transmission decisions. Learners connect facility ratings, thermal and voltage behavior, SOL/IROL context, contingency results, authority, mitigation, and reassessment instead of treating a displayed number as the whole operating picture.

What you will learn

  • Separate observed, estimated, and predicted system states.
  • Identify the controlling Facility Rating, SOL or IROL source and time basis.
  • Evaluate voltage and reactive-power evidence without assuming one universal remedy.
  • Decide whether a contingency-analysis result is current, valid, and usable.
  • Compare redispatch, topology, voltage/reactive, and authorized load actions for effectiveness, prerequisites, authority, and cross-system risk.
  • Document execution, observed response, residual risk, communication, and shift handoff.

Course contents

8 sections and 21 learner pages: a Course Guide, 12 focused teaching lessons, six five-question module checks, a five-case scenario lab, and a 20-question final assessment. The course contains 50 scored questions, nine original EPG instructional boards, and a four-page fillable decision record with 126 fields.

Designed study time: approximately 8 hours. Delivery: self-paced online course with 365 days of access. No video is required.

Assessment and completion

Each module check requires 80%. The final assessment requires 90%. Answer rationales support remediation after submission, and an EPG Solutions completion certificate is available after all course requirements are met.

Best fit

Transmission operators and trainees, TOP candidates needing additional transmission depth, operations engineers supporting the control room, and utility training departments building focused refresher training.
